The Monday after crying….

Like many of you, I spent some time crying yesterday. But also walking through the city I love and having brunch with friends.

September 11th has been an especially emotional day for me since my mom died a few years ago, during this same week.  I start getting sad earlier in the week, and then by the 11th I’m just a wreck.

I try to balance that mess with things I know make me happy. Time with friends and quiet time . Walking and breathing in . So far, so good.

FWIW, for those of you who either worry about me or think I’m pathetic because I’m alone, I’ve been surrounded by love this week. Messages and calls from friends. People who remember the anniversary of my mom’s passing every year and call to check in on me. Friends who check in on me almost every day, just because… they love me.

The Monday after crying.... just a story 320525 257556667610676 100000690335127 841893 72634976 n

And with that, a poem that I adore.

Oh, Yes ‎

there are worse things
than being alone
but it often takes
decades to realize this
and most often when you do
it’s too late
and there’s nothing worse
than too late

– Charles Bukowski

Random, I know. But perfect, too. I first posted this to facebook over the weekend.  After much kicking and screaming, I’ve started to used my facebook account. Maybe we should be friends?

I was in San Diego ten years ago. It was still a day spent glued to a TV. I can only imagine what it was like here…

Losing family, really *getting* our own mortality… tough shit, man. All we can do is surround the ones we love with love.

Settle for a lil internet crush from me? ;)
